Application to Eat Dinner in Pierson College

ATTENTION: Due to the high volume of students desiring to eat at Pierson and the Yale belief that one must apply for anything of real value, we require all dinner eating candidates to fill out the application below and submit it no later than 3 hours before the dining halls open.  This will give our admissions officers ample to time to inform you of their decision to feed you, not feed you, or put you on the wait list to be fed.

Name: Daniel Bennett                        College: Silliman                                Year: 2009

Preferred Name:  "The Hammer"         Are you in Pierson  YES/NO   Why not?:  I'm sorry

What other meals have you eaten today:

DNNG 105: Breakfast

DNNG 234: Lunch (magna cum crudita)

Have you eaten dinner before?  Yes      If so, why are you applying again: I'm hungry

Please explain why you are a qualified candidate for the Dinner at Pierson program:

Ever since I was a child, I've always been drawn towards eating.  My passion for meals can even border on the obsessive.  Sometimes I feel I can't live without food.  As a child with a natural--some may call unhealthy--proclivity toward dinner, I am certain that I can make positive contributions to the Pierson dining hall community.  Whether it's consuming the more obscure dishes like Gaelic soup, bussing my tray in a timely effective manner, or chatting with friends at the frozen yogurt machine, my leadership abilities and thirst for knowledge and Orange-Guava juice make me an ideal dinner eating prospect.  Also, my father had dinner in Pierson in 1975.

Letters of Recommendation:

Aunt Jemima - Director of Undergraduate Studies: Maple Syrup Relations

Captain Crunch - Visiting Lecturer: Grand Naval Tactics and Whole Grain Wheat.

Are you applying for dinner anywhere else:

I'm also interested in the dinner program offered at Davenport, but Pierson's variety, dessert options, and sheer abundance of meat make it my first choice.

What other eating time commitments do you have for this evening:

I participate in midnight snacking on Sundays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 11:30-12:45.  Of course, if accepted to have dinner in Pierson, it will be my chief commitment and primary food source for this evening.

Are you applying for Accelerated Food Perspectives and Applied Utensils (AFPAU):

Yes.  I also have a fellowship from the United States General Dinner Grant (USGDG).

What are your Dinner Entrance Exam scores:

Tray Balance - 720

Etiquette - 4 out of 5

Bacon - YES

ESSAY:  "It's not the presence of food that creates a man's character, but how he reacts to it."  In no more than 500 words, explain a time in your life when you felt threatened by a fruit or vegetable, and overcame an obstacle to prove them all wrong."

My essay, "Alone and Seedless," is attached.

Is there anything else you'd like to add to your application:

I've enclosed pieces of my previous meals and video samples of my eating techniques.  I have also attached a CD of three songs I composed "Creamy Corn Casserole Blues"  "You gonna eat that... (No, seriously are You?)" and "Mango, Mango, Everybody Mango!"

Thank you for applying to eat Dinner at Pierson.  1st round Interviews will be held tonight at 4:30;  2nd round interviews are at 5:15.  Tap night is at 6pm.  Bring a napkin.
